The idea for Lock Laces began in 1997, when Eric Jackson, then a college track athlete, set out to solve the issue of his shoelaces coming untied during races. He fashioned a pair of no-slip adjustable elastic laces out of bungee cords and cord locks, and soon found himself making no-tie laces for a growing number of friends and acquaintances that wanted to try the no-tie lifestyle.
Jackson launched Lock Laces the following year out of his mother’s basement in Baltimore, MD. Soon after, he partnered with now-owner/CEO Frank Sutton and the company moved to Chapel Hill, NC – where they continued the journey to grow Lock Laces into a successful international brand, and to get Lock Laces into the shoes of everyone that needs them.
